Former York Wallcoverings CFO Tina Feuerstein Sentenced to Three Years in Federal Prison for Embezzling More Than $1 Million

CHICAGO — The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois announced that Tina Feuerstein, 54, of Hanover, Pennsylvania, has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for embezzling more than $1 million from her employer. U.S. District Judge LaShonda A. Hunt imposed the sentence on Tuesday and ordered Feuerstein to pay $1,090,020 in restitution.
Feuerstein served as chief financial officer of York Wallcoverings, a Pennsylvania company owned by a Chicago-area company. According to the Department of Justice, shortly after she was hired in 2016, Feuerstein began using a company credit card to purchase personal items, including luxury furniture, designer apparel, and everyday expenses.
Over the next five years, Feuerstein falsified entries in the company's ledgers and deleted items in its expense-reporting system to hide more than 3,800 credit card charges totaling more than $1 million. Before working at York Wallcoverings, she had also embezzled more than $200,000 while working in the accounting department of another company.
Earlier this year, a jury in the Northern District of Illinois convicted Feuerstein on eight counts of wire fraud. The sentence was announced by Andrew S. Boutros, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, and Ryan Whalen, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago Field Office of the FBI.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jared Hasten and Anne Yonover argued in the government's sentencing memorandum that the defendant lied and stole for years from her employer, and that the public needs to know there will be serious consequences when professionals commit crimes such as embezzlement.
