NewMarket Corporation (NYSE: NEU), the Richmond, Virginia-based chemical holding company, reported results for the third quarter and first nine months of 2026. Third-quarter net income was $124.1 million, or $13.50 per share, compared with $100.3 million, or $10.67 per share, a year earlier. Net income for the first nine months was $375.9 million, or $40.64 per share, versus $337.5 million, or $35.78, in the same period of 2025. The company said higher operating profit and a reduced effective tax rate were the primary drivers of the increases.

Third-quarter net sales were $716.5 million, versus $690.3 million a year earlier. Petroleum additives sales were $651.0 million, little changed from $649.1 million, with operating profit of $130.9 million versus $131.3 million. The company said broader softness in lubricant additives cut shipments by 8%, and that surcharges offset higher costs from supply chain disruptions in the Middle East, while a continued focus on operational efficiency sustained strong operating profit margins.

Specialty materials sales rose to $62.0 million from $38.2 million, and operating profit increased to $16.4 million from $6.0 million, driven by a shift in product shipment mix and the inclusion of Calca Solutions, acquired on October 1, 2025. The segment makes specialty materials used in solid rocket motors and high-purity hydrazine propellants, and the company expects its ammonium perchlorate and high-purity hydrazine capacity expansion projects to be completed by the end of 2026.

Over the first nine months the company funded capital expenditures of $88.5 million, paid dividends of $83.1 million, and repurchased over 200 thousand shares for $126.4 million, while reducing its net debt to EBITDA ratio to 1.0x. Chairman and CEO Thomas E. Gottwald said the company continues to monitor the Middle East conflict, the uncertain macroeconomic environment, and changes in international trade relations and tariffs, and that the surcharges and operational actions taken earlier this year remain in place.
