'Charming Jiangsu' Weaving and Embroidery Exhibition in Budapest: Ming-Dynasty Garments, Nanjing Yunjin Brocade and Blue Calico on Show

The 'Charming Jiangsu' Chinese weaving and embroidery art exhibition was recently held in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Jointly organized by the China Cultural Center in Budapest and the 'Charming Jiangsu' Global Communication Center, the exhibition brings together Ming-dynasty ceremonial garments, Nanjing Yunjin brocade pieces and Nanjing blue calico, alongside a 'China Story' lecture and a Jiangsu tourism promotion event.
The exhibition is arranged in three thematic sections, with exhibits including Ming-dynasty garments, reproductions in Nanjing blue calico and decorative pieces in Nanjing Yunjin brocade. Yunjin is a leading example of China's traditional jacquard silk weaving, while blue calico is a folk printing and dyeing craft long practiced in Jiangsu; shown together, they trace the history and handcraft of Jiangsu weaving and embroidery for Hungarian audiences.
During the exhibition, the seventh session of the 'China Story' lecture series featured a Yunjin inheritor explaining the weaving techniques of Nanjing Yunjin and the history of blue calico exports to Europe, introducing Hungarian visitors to the craft heritage and the story of exchange behind the exhibits.
At a companion tourism promotion event titled 'Hello China: Chinese Cities I Have Visited,' two Hungarian guests who had studied in Nanjing shared their study and travel experiences in China, while four travel agencies and airlines presented air routes and travel products between China and Hungary. Jiangsu also released ten measures to make inbound travel more convenient and launched its 'Next Stop: Jiangsu' inbound tourism program.
The China Cultural Center in Budapest is a standing platform for cultural exchange between China and Hungary, presenting exhibitions, lectures and performances to Hungarian audiences year-round. The weaving and embroidery show is the latest European outing of the 'Charming Jiangsu' cultural communication program.
