Kuala Lumpur Luxury-Home Scam Centre Raided: 20 Foreigners Arrested, Including 4 Chinese and 5 Taiwanese Men

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, October 28 — Malaysia's Immigration Department raided a luxury home in the Pudu area near Jalan Sin Chee on Wednesday night and broke up a suspected online investment scam centre, arresting 20 foreign nationals, including 4 men from China and 5 men from Taiwan. The case remains under investigation, and all allegations are subject to the department's findings.
Immigration Director-General Zakaria said in a statement on October 29 that the department's special intelligence and operations team acted at about 11:45 p.m. on October 28 after two weeks of intelligence work. The 20 people arrested, aged 23 to 43, comprise 5 Taiwanese men, 4 Chinese men, 4 Indian men, 4 Thai men, 2 Thai women and 1 Indian woman. All were taken to the Immigration Department office for further investigation.
Preliminary investigations indicate the syndicate allegedly rented the luxury home as an operations centre to avoid detection, with separate groups targeting victims in different countries, including Thailand, India, Taiwan and Japan. The site is believed to have operated for about a month, running daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Investigators also found that the foreign workers were not free to leave the home and had food delivered to them.
Officers seized 45 mobile phones, 8 desktop computers, 3 laptops, 5 internet routers, 4 walkie-talkies, 11 foreign passports, access cards, RM5,370 in cash and various foreign currencies, along with Thai-language scam scripts and communications equipment. The case is being investigated under Sections 6(1)(c), 15(1)(c) and 56(1)(d) of Malaysia's Immigration Act 1959/63 and Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
