RedBird Capital and Sound Ventures Form $1 Billion Partnership to Back Companies at the Crossroads of Tech, Media and Culture

RedBird Capital Partners and Los Angeles venture firm Sound Ventures announced a strategic partnership on October 29 to invest $1 billion in emerging platforms at the convergence of technology, media and culture, The Hollywood Reporter reported.

According to the firms' joint statement, the partnership pairs RedBird's institutional investment platform, global reach and business-building expertise with Sound's founder relationships and marketing acumen. RedBird X, the firm's dedicated investment and incubation platform, will work alongside Sound on diligence and portfolio support. Sound Ventures was an early investor in both OpenAI and Anthropic.

"The next great technology companies and the entrepreneur founders behind them need versatile partners who understand the long-term trajectory of company building and alpha generation," said Gerry Cardinale, RedBird's founder and managing partner. Guy Oseary, co-founder of Sound Ventures, said RedBird brings a complementary outlook, with the resources and scale to compound the impact of Sound's investments.

RedBird, founded in 2014, manages more than $21 billion in assets across more than 50 portfolio companies. Sound Ventures, co-founded by Oseary and Ashton Kutcher in 2015, manages more than $2 billion. The firms did not announce any initial investments under the partnership or specify how the $1 billion will be divided.
