Port of Long Beach Terminals Add Extended Gate Hours for Six Weeks Ahead of Vincent Thomas Bridge Closure

Thursday, October 29, 2026 · California · GSM News

The Port of Long Beach announced on October 29 that participating terminals will keep their truck gates open into the evenings and on Saturdays starting in late October, for six weeks excluding the week of Thanksgiving, ahead of the November 7 closure of the Vincent Thomas Bridge in the neighboring Port of Los Angeles.

The bridge closure is part of Caltrans' 16-month deck replacement project. The port said the extended hours give shippers more ways to move cargo and access container terminals during the closure; details are posted on the port's gate hours page.

"We know that time and flexibility are important to our customers when it comes to moving cargo and running a business," Port CEO Dr. Noel Hacegaba said, adding that the port planned proactively with terminal operators, the International Longshore and Warehouse Union and the Harbor Trucking Association. Harbor Commission President Steven Neal said the Port of Long Beach will remain open throughout the bridge closure.
