SEG Solar Signs Land Deal on Oct. 29 for a $950 Million Heterojunction Solar Cell Plant in Houston, Harris County, Texas: More Than 700 Jobs at the Tomball Campus

Solar manufacturer SEG Solar announced in Houston on October 29 that it has signed a land agreement for a planned $950 million heterojunction (HJT) solar cell plant at its Tomball Industrial Campus in the greater Houston area, with annual capacity of 4 GW and more than 700 local jobs expected. The facility is planned to come online in two 2 GW phases, targeted for 2028 and 2029. Once completed, the Tomball campus will bring HJT cell, module and key component manufacturing together in one place, making it one of the few U.S. locations where cells, modules and key components are made at a single site. The new plant will sit adjacent to SEG's existing 4 GW Tomball #1 module facility and its 4.6 GW Tomball #2 module facility currently under construction; the campus also includes warehousing, a research and development center, a certified testing laboratory, and planned EVA film and junction box production lines. The company said modules made with U.S.-produced HJT cells will help developers and asset owners meet domestic content requirements and provide a more reliable U.S.-made supply source.
