The Native American Festival and Pow Wow at Stone Mountain Park, near Atlanta, opened on October 29 and runs through November 1 at the park's Historic Square, 1000 Robert E. Lee Boulevard. According to the event guide published by Chinese in Atlanta, hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on October 29 and 30, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on October 31 and November 1. Native American dancers, drummers and singers from across the United States and Central America perform traditional dances and drumming, with competitions held on Saturday and Sunday and the Grand Entry expected to begin at 12:30 p.m. Beyond the stage performances, the festival features demonstrations of pottery making, flint-knapping, bow and arrow making, traditional fire starting and open-fire cooking, and visitors can tour traditional dwellings to learn about Native American life and cultural heritage. Native artists and crafters display their work, and the event also includes traditional cooking culture, storytelling, and wildlife education presented by the American Eagle Foundation, making it suitable for families with children. For Chinese American families in the Atlanta area, the festival offers a Halloween-weekend outing, alongside trick-or-treating and pumpkin activities, for children to experience another traditional culture and learn about Native American history.
