Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society Breaks Ground Oct. 29 on $15 Million South Philadelphia Headquarters in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania: Space to Triple, Rescue, Adoption and Affordable Veterinary Care Under One Roof

The Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) broke ground on October 29 in South Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, on a new 18,500-square-foot headquarters, marking the construction phase of its "Our Home, Their Haven" capital campaign. Once completed, the $15 million facility will bring rescue, pet adoption, affordable veterinary care and pet owner support services together under one roof, replacing the two current facilities it will supersede, with three times the space and a significantly increased capacity to shelter and treat homeless and at-risk animals. At the groundbreaking, Pennsylvania State Representative Regina Young and Tiphanie White, chief of staff to Philadelphia City Council President Kenyatta Johnson, delivered remarks, joined by donors, staff, clinic clients and adoptable dogs, commemorating the organization's 20-year history. As the city's largest animal rescue partner, PAWS said the new headquarters will allow more animals to receive timely care and placement and let pet owners access services more conveniently in one location, while fundraising for the project continues toward its goal.
