Grantsboro, Pamlico County, North Carolina: Vigil for Domestic Violence Victims on the Evening of October 29; Statewide Domestic Violence Deaths Rose to 162 in 2025

An annual 'Night of Remembrance, Hope and Healing' vigil will be held on the evening of October 29 in Grantsboro, Pamlico County, North Carolina, to honor people who have lost their lives to domestic violence. The event, hosted by the Coastal Center for Hope and Healing, runs from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Pamlico Community College during Domestic Violence Awareness Month; community members will remember victims, hear survivor stories, and recognize the impact of domestic violence on families and communities. The center serves survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Craven, Pamlico and Jones counties. The vigil comes as domestic violence deaths rise across North Carolina: the state Department of Justice reported that domestic violence-related homicides claimed 155 victims in 2024, rising to 162 in 2025. In response, Attorney General Jeff Jackson brought together state and local leaders for a roundtable on October 27 to discuss preventing domestic violence and better protecting victims; participants included Congresswoman Deborah Ross, law enforcement officials, prosecutors, health professionals and domestic violence service providers. Organizers said the event is intended to remember those who have died and to offer hope and support to people affected by abuse.
