99 Ranch Market in Chino, California to Close Permanently November 15: 49 Workers Affected

The 99 Ranch Market store at 4024 Grand Avenue in Chino, in San Bernardino County, California, has posted a bilingual notice in the store announcing that it will permanently close on November 15, 2026. Parent company Tawa Supermarket has filed a WARN notice with the California Employment Development Department (EDD), and the closure will affect 49 employees at the store.
The notice says the store has served the Chino community for many years and thanks customers for their support. It gives no reason for the closure and mentions no clearance sale. It invites customers to shop at the nearby 99 Ranch Market in Chino Hills, at 2959 Chino Ave, Chino Hills, CA 91709, phone (909) 517-3288.
According to the WARN filing, Tawa Supermarket submitted its closure and layoff notice on October 26, and it was processed the same day. The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act generally requires employers to give written notice at least 60 days before a mass layoff or plant closure; this closure falls about 20 days after the filing. The EDD notes that employers unable to give 60 days' notice must still file and include an explanation.
The Chino Hills store remains open, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. 99 Ranch Market also has stores in nearby Eastvale (4956 Hamner Ave) and Corona (430 N McKinley St), and Chino is also home to an H Mart and other Asian grocers, so nearby residents still have other options for Asian groceries.
99 Ranch Market was founded in 1984 in Westminster, California, by Taiwanese immigrant Roger H. Chen. Headquartered in Buena Park, Orange County, it is the largest Asian supermarket chain in the United States, with 66 stores across 11 states, 43 of them in California.
This summer, the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) sued Tawa Supermarket, alleging it discriminated against non-Chinese workers, including firing non-Chinese managers and giving non-Chinese employees fewer hours and lower pay. The company has denied the allegations, calling them without merit. Neither the store notice nor the WARN filing states a reason for this closure.
