Singapore's Chinese Community: SCCC Launches Preschool Idiom Travelling Trunks, Free for Kindergartens to Borrow from November

Preschool children in Singapore's Chinese community are getting a new Chinese-language learning resource: the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC) announced on October 29 the launch of Todd's Fable-lous Bag, a preschool edition of its travelling-trunk programme, available for kindergartens to borrow from November 2026 to December 2028.
There are three thematic trunks, each centred on a Chinese idiom presented through an original story reimagined with a Singapore local twist. All three stories follow Todd, a preschooler, as he discovers the meaning of each idiom. Each trunk is 70 cm tall with an animal theme, and contains age-appropriate learning materials and hands-on activities, bilingual teacher e-guides and curriculum-aligned e-lesson plans, with a focus on values, cultural appreciation and language learning.
The preschool edition follows the primary-school Culture on Wheels travelling trunks launched in July 2025. SCCC partnered with MOE Kindergarten @ Valour for a media preview and storytelling demonstration.
SCCC Chief Executive Officer Alvin Tan said the trunks aim to nurture early interest in Chinese language and culture, equip preschool educators with teaching support, and offer children engaging encounters with local Chinese culture.
Preschools may borrow a trunk free of charge for one month. From November 2026, borrowing preschools may also opt into a paid storytelling and food-making workshop.
