Taiwan New Taipei Tucheng Linear Park: NT$19 Million Renovation Opens With Six Sports Facilities Including Balance-Bike Track and Pickleball Court
The Tucheng Linear Park in New Taipei, Taiwan, reopened on October 28 after a full renovation, having served nearby residents for nearly 20 years. The Tucheng District Office carried out the NT$19 million project, including a NT$15 million subsidy from the New Taipei City Landscaping Office, adding six sports facilities, including a balance-bike practice track and a pickleball court, to the roughly 11,500-square-metre park as an all-ages community sports and recreation space.
Opened in 2007, the long and narrow park had seen declining use as its basketball court and skating rink wore out and its ground surface cracked. The district office applied under the city's programme for renewing old parks and building all-ages inclusive playgrounds to carry out the overhaul.
Tucheng District Chief Zhou Jinping said the renovation has three highlights. First, upgraded and age-zoned sports facilities: a push-bike practice track, a Metro Hero children's playground, a pickleball court, a football pitch, a basketball court and a skating rink. Second, improved circulation and landscaping, with drainage, walking trails and barrier-free routes rebuilt and bright colours added for safety. Third, an inclusive setting linked to nearby homes, metro and bus stops, giving seniors and schoolchildren a green space for leisure, exercise and learning.
New Taipei Agriculture Department Director Chen Xihui said the city government has been renewing old parks since 2019, and with Tucheng Linear Park the city has now delivered 265 all-ages and inclusive parks. Local representatives, borough chiefs and many residents attended the opening ceremony.
