Trump and Melania Host Halloween at the White House: Candy for Hundreds of Children as Air Force One Flies Over Twice

On the evening of October 29, President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump hosted the annual Halloween celebration on the South Lawn of the White House in Washington, handing commemorative candy to hundreds of children in costume. The event ran from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Eastern for ticketed guests, including military families, law enforcement families, foster and adoptive families, and the children of administration officials.
This year's White House Halloween was decorated around a "harvest moon" theme: a giant faux moon hung above the South Portico, pumpkins and ivy covered the steps, and a "HALLOWEEN 2026" sign stood over the entrance. The Trumps handed out candy along the South Drive, chatting with parents, signing autographs and posing for photos with the children, whose costumes included Barbie, Tigger, Batman and several founding fathers.
Shortly after the event began, Air Force One made a low pass over the White House, then flew over again two minutes later from the opposite direction as families on the lawn looked up. The U.S. Air Force Strolling Strings performed Halloween-themed music from the portico steps, including themes from Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and Jaws, and Trump danced briefly to the Ghostbusters theme.
Trump also revived his well-known Halloween gag, placing a chocolate bar on top of the head of a child dressed as DJ Marshmello. The bit first drew attention at the 2019 White House Halloween event, when the image spread widely, and he repeated it again last year.
The event also featured U.S. Postal Service toy mail trucks and a BE BEST postcard station, plus a giant pumpkin photo opportunity and mini pumpkins from the Department of Agriculture. The International Fresh Produce Association provided apples from Michigan, and the National Confectioners Association provided treats. The White House Halloween celebration dates to 1958, during President Dwight Eisenhower's administration, and has since become an annual tradition.
Earlier in the day, Trump spoke at a rally in Rock Hill, South Carolina, before returning to the White House to host the event. The White House's official channel published the full video of the celebration.
