Los Angeles County, California: County Launches Neurodiversity Employment Initiative, With a First Cohort of 25 Candidates Recruited and Trained for County Jobs

Friday, October 30, 2026 · California · GSM News

Los Angeles County, California, announced the launch of a Neurodiversity Employment Initiative on October 29, opening a dedicated pathway into county government jobs for neurodivergent residents, including autistic adults. A first cohort of 25 candidates will be recruited and trained by the nonprofit NeuroTalent Works and then matched to county positions.

The initiative stems from a motion unanimously adopted by the Board of Supervisors on April 1, 2025, introduced by Supervisors Hahn and Mitchell. The county's Department of Human Resources leads the program, in partnership with the Department of Aging and Disabilities, the County Commission on Disabilities and the county's seven regional centers.

County officials said neurodivergent job seekers are often disadvantaged by conventional interview formats and communication expectations, and that the dedicated pathway will provide job matching, onboarding coaching and workplace support to help candidates stay and grow in county departments.

Los Angeles County is the most populous county in the United States, and its government is one of Southern California's largest employers. The initiative is the county's latest step to extend inclusive hiring across a broader range of departments.
