San Bernardino County, California: Rialto Branch Library Reopens With an Immersive Space Storytime Room and an Animaker Makerspace

The San Bernardino County Library's Rialto Branch, in the City of Rialto, San Bernardino County, California, has reopened after a renovation. More than 200 community members gathered on October 19 to celebrate the reopening, and 40 students from the County Preschool Services Department were among the first to explore the new spaces.
The renovated branch features a reimagined children's storytime space built as an interactive space station experience, designed to build anticipation and a sense of discovery. A new Animaker Space, developed with Garner Holt Education Through Imagination, gives children 3D printers, a vinyl printer, a laser cutter, a CNC milling machine, a vacuum former, embroidery and sewing equipment, a professional show lighting and truss system, and an animatronic figure named Radian — tools used across the design, fabrication and entertainment industries.
"As someone who grew up visiting the Rialto Branch Library, it is especially meaningful to see it continue to grow and create new opportunities for our community," said Vice Chair and Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr. "These new spaces are more than an investment in our library. They are an investment in our children's futures." Rialto Mayor Joe Baca, Council Member Edward Montoya Jr. and former NASA astronaut Dr. José Hernández joined the ribbon cutting.
County Librarian Melanie Orosco said the renovation represents what the county wants its libraries to be — places where children and families are excited to walk through the doors and discover something new. Branch information is available at library.sbcounty.gov or by calling 909-387-2220.
