California: Caltrans to Close All Southbound U.S. 101 Lanes at San Francisco's Hospital Curve on the Weekend of November 6 to 9

All southbound lanes of the U.S. 101 Bayshore Freeway's Hospital Curve segment in the City and County of San Francisco, California, will close for a full weekend of paving work. Caltrans announced that every southbound lane between 17th Street and Cesar Chavez will be closed from 11 p.m. on Friday, November 6, until 6 a.m. on Monday, November 9, to complete the final stage of southbound repaving.
During the closure, the 4th Street, 7th Street and 10th Street southbound on-ramps and the westbound I-80 to northbound U.S. 101 Central Freeway connector will also be closed. All northbound lanes will remain open. Caltrans advises southbound drivers to use Interstate 280 as the alternate route and to allow extra travel time.
The Hospital Curve rehabilitation project began in the fall of 2025. Northbound lanes were repaved in September, two of the four southbound lanes were repaved in October, and this weekend closure will finish the remaining two southbound lanes, completing the project.
Caltrans said the completed work preserves the freeway corridor with a 40-year life span, improves ride quality and driving comfort, and enhances overall freeway safety. Updates are posted at sfhighwayprojects.com, and real-time traffic information is available through Caltrans QuickMap.
