California: Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control Awarded $2.8 Million Traffic Safety Grant to Fund 22 Local Agencies Against Underage Drinking

The California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) announced it has been awarded a $2.8 million grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), to reduce underage drinking and protect communities across California. The grant will run through the end of September 2027.
Grant funding will also support 22 local law enforcement agencies with up to $30,000 each to combat alcohol-related harm in their communities through ABC education and enforcement programs. Selected agencies include the Bakersfield and Pasadena police departments, the Riverside Police Department, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Thermal Station, and the National City Police Department in San Diego County.
"We're truly thankful for the ongoing partnership and strong support from the Office of Traffic Safety and NHTSA," said ABC Director Paul Tupy. "This grant gives us vital resources to make California communities safer for everyone."
Programs funded by the grant include Minor Decoy and Shoulder Tap operations, the Know Your Limit program, fake identification enforcement, compliance checks involving alcohol delivery services, maximum holiday enforcement, and the IMPACT inspections, LEAD trainings and TRACE investigations aimed at licensed businesses.
