EU: €20 Million More in Peace Facility Support for Mauritania, Total Reaches €75 Million

Friday, October 30, 2026 · World · GSM News

The Council of the European Union on October 29 adopted a fourth assistance measure for Mauritania under the European Peace Facility, worth €20 million, to provide the country's armed forces with non-lethal land surveillance assets.

The Council said the support will improve the Mauritanian military's surveillance capacity and its ability to control its territory and borders, contributing to stability in West Africa and the Sahel. The new measure brings total EU bilateral support to Mauritania under the facility to €75 million.

A 2025 measure under the same facility provided drones and a data processing centre; earlier measures supplied medical and engineering equipment and a patrol vessel.

The European Peace Facility, established in March 2021, is an off-budget EU instrument that funds military and defence actions under the common foreign and security policy and supports partner countries in preserving peace and preventing conflict.
