South Korea: 76,700 Homes Planned at Six Green-Belt Sites in Gyeonggi Province

South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on October 29 that 76,700 homes will be built at six sites in Gyeonggi Province where green-belt restrictions are being lifted. Together with 27,200 homes at three sites announced in August, green-belt housing supply in the capital region reaches 103,900 units, above the 100,000 target.

All six sites lie within about five kilometres of the Seoul boundary: 37,000 homes at Gimpo Ara, 14,600 at Guri Geonwon, 12,000 at Hanam Misa K-Culture, 6,500 at Hanam Gamil 2, 4,000 in the expansion of Goyang Daegok and 2,600 at Uijeongbu Darakwon. Construction is to start by 2030 at all sites.

Land Minister Hong Ji-seon said preparation time has been cut from 68 months to 37 months by running expropriation and planning procedures in parallel, and that central government, Gyeonggi Province and local governments will cooperate to deliver the projects.

The ministry also said it reviewed 2,917 land transactions in the designated areas and selected 654 for further investigation to deter speculation.
