Blue Ridge Parkway Reopens Key Sections for Fall Travel: 458 of 469 Miles Restored, With an Uninterrupted Drive From Virginia's James River to Little Switzerland

The National Park Service announced on October 5 that multiple projects have been completed on the Blue Ridge Parkway in time for the peak fall tourism season. Visitors can now drive uninterrupted from the James River, at milepost 63.7 in Virginia, to Little Switzerland, near milepost 344 in North Carolina.
Of the 60 slide repairs required along the Parkway following Hurricane Helene, 48 are now complete and work is underway on the final 12. Access has been restored to 458 of the Parkway's 469 miles, with work progressing on the final 11 miles. Newly reopened sections in North Carolina include mileposts 317.5 to 324.7 south of Linville Falls and mileposts 333.9 in Little Switzerland to 340.2 at NC-80. In Roanoke, Virginia, mileposts 115 to 121 recently reopened as the final step of a multiyear repaving and rehabilitation project.
Additional openings in the Boone and Blowing Rock area include the Deep Gap Bridge at milepost 276.4 and loops B and D at the Julian Price Campground at milepost 297, with campground reservations available through recreation.gov. A historic road reconstruction project from milepost 229.6 to 305.1 was also completed in mid-September.
Final Helene road repairs are underway from milepost 344 to 355 and are slated for completion and reopening by the end of 2026. Visitors can find road status updates, facility schedules and maps on the park's website.
