Roy Lichtenstein: Like New: The Whitney's First New York Retrospective Since 1993

Friday, October 30, 2026 · Culture & Travel · GSM News

The Whitney Museum of American Art, at 99 Gansevoort Street in New York City, New York County, New York, is presenting Roy Lichtenstein: Like New, on view from October 11, 2026, through May 10, 2027, on the museum's fifth floor. It is the first New York retrospective of Lichtenstein's work since 1993.

Titled after a 1962 work, the exhibition features many of the artist's most iconic paintings alongside lesser-known works and four re-created murals. It traces Lichtenstein's fascination with perception across six decades of painting, drawing, sculpture, film, and prints. Lichtenstein took his imagery from comic books and newspapers, reconfiguring his compositions before enlarging and transferring them to canvas, mimicking the bold black outlines, flat bright colors, and dot patterns of commercial printing.

According to the museum's media materials, the exhibition brings together roughly 130 works made from the early 1940s through the 1990s, including all eight paintings from his 1962 Pop debut at Leo Castelli Gallery, reunited for the first time.

The exhibition is organized by Meg Onli, the Whitney's Nancy and Fred Poses Curator, and Alex Da Corte, artist and guest curator. Visitor and ticket information is available on the Whitney Museum's website.
