Honolulu Urges Residents on Oct. 30 to Renew Driver Licenses up to Six Months Early; More than 7,100 Expire Monthly as Appointment Crunch Looms

The City and County of Honolulu urged Oahu residents on October 30 to renew their Hawaii driver licenses and state IDs early, to avoid tight appointments and gaps in validity near expiration. The city said the number of credentials coming due in the coming weeks will stay high, averaging more than 7,100 expirations a month, and continues to advise residents to renew within the six-month window before expiration.
Kim, the city's customer services director, who oversees the licensing centers and satellite city halls, reminded residents to book as soon as they enter the six-month window; Saturday appointment slots are released online at 4:15 p.m. each Wednesday. Renewals can be booked through the city's online appointment system, with service details on the city website. The city said renewing early avoids last-minute long lines and any lapse in a credential's validity.
