Northbound I-5 Through Downtown Seattle Fully Closed from Late Night Oct. 30 to 5 a.m. Nov. 2 for Ship Canal Bridge Work; Express Lanes Stay Northbound

The Washington State Department of Transportation will fully close northbound Interstate 5 through downtown Seattle, in King County, from 11:59 p.m. on October 30 until 5 a.m. on November 2, covering all northbound mainline lanes between Interstate 90 and Northeast 45th Street; related ramps begin closing from 9 p.m. on October 30. The closure removes the construction zone for the Ship Canal Bridge repair project, reconfigures lanes and restripes the roadway; when it reopens, northbound I-5 returns to four lanes -- nearly two months ahead of the original late-December schedule.
During construction the express lanes will run northbound throughout, returning to the normal reversible pattern on Monday morning. The removal work depends on dry weather: if it rains over the weekend, the schedule may change.
