Joby eVTOL Flies St. Petersburg to Tampa International on the Morning of Oct. 30: Florida's First Flight Under the Federal eVTOL Pilot Program

Tampa, in Hillsborough County, Florida, hosted the state's first flight under the federal electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) integration pilot program on the morning of October 30: a Joby Aviation electric air taxi took off from Albert Whitted Airport in downtown St. Petersburg and flew to Tampa International Airport, with public viewing from 8:45 a.m. at Albert Whitted Park. The flight opens Joby's week-long Florida test series, which will also visit Orlando International Airport and Kennedy Space Center.
Florida is one of eight states selected for the U.S. Department of Transportation's eVTOL integration pilot program, announced in March, which tests how such aircraft can ultimately be integrated into the national transportation system. Joby said its aircraft remains in the final stage of FAA type certification.
