Friday, October 30, 2026 · Travel · GSM News

Columbus, Ohio, received major aviation news on October 30: Lufthansa announced it will launch nonstop service between John Glenn Columbus International Airport and Frankfurt Airport on May 5, 2027, with three flights a week operated by the 287-seat Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner featuring the airline's Allegris cabin. It will be Columbus's first scheduled nonstop route to Europe; travelers from the city currently must connect through other U.S. airports to reach Europe.

Frankfurt is one of Europe's major hubs, offering onward connections to many European destinations. Reporting noted that the Columbus region's business ties with Germany are an important source of demand: according to Columbus Dispatch figures, 38 German companies operate in the region, and Germany is among Ohio's significant trading partners.
