ODOT to Close I-70 Westbound in Downtown Columbus over Halloween Weekend

Friday, October 30, 2026 · Society · GSM News

The Ohio Department of Transportation has announced that Interstate 70 westbound through downtown Columbus will close for construction over the Halloween weekend.

The closed stretch runs between Interstate 71 and State Route 315, from 10 p.m. on Friday, October 30, until after 5 a.m. on Monday, November 2. Crews will perform bridge patching work, including removing and replacing aging concrete. The ramp from I-70 westbound to the I-71 southbound flyover will also close during the same period. ODOT's suggested detour is I-70 westbound to I-71 northbound, then Interstate 670 westbound, and back to I-70 westbound.

The weekend work is part of ODOT's $1.4 billion I-70/I-71 'Downtown Ramp Up' project to revamp the highways around downtown Columbus. Department spokesperson Hannah Salem said bridge patching is routine maintenance that keeps the roadway safe; drivers are advised to plan routes ahead over the busy Halloween weekend.
