Dallas Fed President Logan: Fed Needs at Least Two More 25-Basis-Point Rate Hikes

Friday, October 30, 2026 · Finance · GSM News

Dallas Federal Reserve President Lorie Logan said on October 30 that the Federal Reserve needs at least two more interest rate increases to get inflation under control — some of the most explicit rate guidance offered by a U.S. central banker since Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh took the helm in May.

'It remains clear to me, given the current outlook, that the FOMC needs to implement at least two more 25-basis-point rate increases,' Logan said in remarks prepared for delivery to students at Davidson College, adding that after that it would make sense to pause and assess economic and financial developments.

Logan joined the majority of the Federal Open Market Committee this week in a 10-2 vote to leave short-term rates in the 3.75%-4.00% range, even as the committee said the economy is strong and inflation too high. Logan, among the more hawkish Fed policymakers, argues the target rate should be at least half a percentage point higher to restrict the economy enough to return inflation to the Fed's 2% goal.
