U.S. and Palau Leaders Hold Joint Committee Meeting in Honolulu to Advance Security Partnership

Senior leaders from the United States and the Republic of Palau held a U.S.–Palau Joint Committee Meeting at the Hale Koa Hotel in Honolulu, Hawaii, on October 28; the readout was released on October 30.
Palau was represented by President Surangel S. Whipps Jr. and National Security Coordinator Jennifer Anson, while the U.S. side included leaders from U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, Joint Task Force-Micronesia, the U.S. Embassy in Palau and interagency officials. The two sides reaffirmed their partnership under the Compact of Free Association and discussed homeland defense, countering transnational organized crime and enhancing maritime security, along with planned port, airfield and dock improvements in Palau.
Rear Adm. Joshua Lasky, commander of Joint Task Force-Micronesia, said years of close collaboration have advanced readiness on both sides. The Joint Committee is the consultative mechanism the two countries established under the Compact; no new specific agreements were announced, and cooperation continues within the existing treaty framework.
