California Labor Agency Headquarters in Sacramento to Be Renamed for Dolores Huerta

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced on October 30 that the headquarters of the California Labor and Workforce Development Agency in downtown Sacramento will be renamed in honor of labor leader and civil rights icon Dolores Huerta.
Huerta died of cancer at her home in Bakersfield on October 28 at age 96, surrounded by family. A co-founder of the farmworker movement that became the United Farm Workers, she spent her life fighting for farmworkers' rights and coined the movement's rallying cry, 'Sí, se puede' — 'Yes, we can.'
The 17-story building, reopened in January after a full renovation, covers 650,000 square feet and houses about 2,500 state employees from the Labor and Workforce Development Agency, the Employment Development Department, the Department of Industrial Relations and the California Workforce Development Board. The governor's office called the naming a lasting tribute to her life's work. The date of a formal renaming ceremony has not been announced.
