Utah Inland Port Authority Unveils PortSLC, Aimed at Aerospace and Advanced Manufacturing

Friday, October 30, 2026 · Finance · GSM News

The Utah Inland Port Authority on Wednesday, October 28, unveiled the 'PortSLC' brand, renaming its Northwest Quadrant project area, reports on October 30 said. The project aims to launch an international campaign to attract aerospace and defense, life sciences and advanced manufacturing companies to Utah.

Executive Director Ben Hart said PortSLC covers not just the project area's 17,000 acres but a broader 30,000 to 40,000 acres around Salt Lake City International Airport, calling the zone the 'ground zero' for attracting industry to the state. The area sits minutes from a major international airport and close to two rail systems and Interstates 80, 15 and 215. Hart also noted that a 60,000-square-foot Delta Air Lines cargo facility is expected to be completed in 2027, with the port authority providing an $18 million loan for the project.

The authority said it has donated $7.5 million for wetland and shoreline conservation and expects to donate another $2.5 million next spring. The inland port project has drawn continuing discussion over environmental and land-use questions, and the rebrand and conservation donations respond to those concerns.
