Wise Wife Ground Cinnamon Sold in 14 States Recalled Over Elevated Lead Levels

Friday, October 30, 2026 · Life · GSM News

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) posted a company announcement on October 29: SLR Food Distribution Inc. of Hicksville, New York, is voluntarily recalling Wise Wife brand ground cinnamon because it has the potential to be contaminated with elevated levels of lead.

The recalled product comes in a 110 g (3.88 oz) clear plastic container with a black screw-top cap. Its UPC is 0688474302754, printed on the back label, and its Best Before date is April 25, 2027.

The cinnamon was distributed to retail and grocery stores in 14 states — Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin — between September 8, 2025, and June 28, 2026.

The recall was initiated after a sample collected and analyzed by the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station revealed elevated levels of lead in the product. The company said no illnesses have been reported to date, and it is notifying customers to stop distribution and sale of the product and remove it from store shelves.

According to the announcement, short-term exposure to very low levels of lead may not elicit any symptoms, and increased blood lead levels may be the only apparent sign of exposure. If a child is exposed to enough lead for a prolonged period, permanent damage to the central nervous system may occur, resulting in learning disorders, developmental defects and other long-term health problems.

Consumers should not consume the recalled product and should either discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Questions can be directed to SLR Food Distribution at 1-516-437-3782, Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time.
