More Than $8 Million in Cryptocurrency Taken at Gunpoint: Garcia Brothers Sentenced to a Combined 366 Months for Kidnapping a Family

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Minnesota announced on October 30 that Raymond Christian Garcia and Isiah Angelo Garcia, both of Waller, Texas, were sentenced to 180 months and 186 months in prison, respectively, a combined 366 months, for their roles in a September 2025 armed robbery and kidnapping of a family in Grant, Minnesota.

The brothers were sentenced before U.S. District Judge Donovan W. Frank on October 29, 2026, and had previously pleaded guilty on June 18, 2026.

According to court documents, on September 19, 2025, the Garcia brothers traveled from Texas to Minnesota and kidnapped Victim 1 and his family in their home at gunpoint. They zip-tied the family, held them at gunpoint for over nine hours, and demanded access to Victim 1's cryptocurrency accounts.

When Victim 1 did not transfer the expected amount, the brothers forced him to drive Isiah Garcia to the family's cabin in upstate Minnesota, where he was forced to retrieve additional cryptocurrency storage devices and transfer the funds. The defendants ultimately compelled Victim 1 to transfer more than $8 million in cryptocurrency.

The brothers fled after the victim's son called 911, and law enforcement later identified and arrested them near Houston, Texas.

"The Garcia brothers committed a brazen and calculated act of violence against the victim and his family. My office will continue to pursue those who use intimidation and threats to exploit victims, no matter where they flee," said U.S. Attorney Daniel N. Rosen.

FBI Minneapolis Field Office Special Agent in Charge Christopher D. Dotson said the defendants violated the sanctity of a home, abducted a victim and terrorized a family at gunpoint for hours in a targeted, deliberate and extremely violent act.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the Washington County Sheriff's Office and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Rebecca E. Kline.
