Missing 16-Year-Old Girl Found Deceased in Aurora, Ontario

A 16-year-old girl identified only as Lucy, who went missing from her home in Aurora, York Region, Ontario, Canada, in the early hours of October 27, was confirmed located on October 30. York Regional Police said on October 30 that Lucy had been located and asked the public to remove her photo from circulation; AuroraToday reported the same day that she had been found deceased.
Police had earlier said Lucy was last seen at about 3 a.m. on October 27, leaving her residence on foot in the area of Mavrinac Boulevard and Wellington Street, and had appealed to the public out of concern for her well-being. Canadian Chinese-language media described her as a Chinese girl during the search; the York Regional Police release and local English-language coverage did not state her ethnic background.
AuroraToday reported on October 30 that Aurora Mayor Tom Mrakas expressed condolences to the girl's family and friends, thanked York Regional Police and members of the public who shared the appeal and helped search, and asked residents to respect the family's privacy. Police said the incident appears to be personal in nature and released no further details about the circumstances of her death; her last name has not been released.
Lucy was a student at Dr. G.W. Williams Secondary School, according to the report, and support is being made available at the school, with board psychologists and social workers available on request. This report carries no photo of her, as police have asked that her missing-person photo be removed from circulation.
