Chino Hills Issues El Niño Preparedness Guide: Sandbags at Two Fire Stations Ahead of a Possible Wet Winter

The City of Chino Hills, in San Bernardino County, California, has issued a preparedness notice as San Bernardino County prepares for the possibility of a wet winter due to El Niño. While storm conditions are not guaranteed, the city said El Niño conditions can increase the potential for heavier rain, flooding, and high winds, and residents can prepare now before a storm arrives.
The city's storm preparedness tips include assembling an emergency supply kit; keeping debris clear from rain gutters, downspouts, and drains so water can flow and drain properly; having a supply of sandbags and other flood prevention materials such as plastic sheeting, plywood, and tarps on hand; checking the roof for leaks, damage, or displaced tiles, paying special attention to areas where separation could occur, such as around the chimney; and signing up for City of Chino Hills emergency alerts.
During periods of heavy rain, the City of Chino Hills provides a limited supply of sand, and the Chino Valley Fire District provides sandbags for residents only at Fire Station 62, 5551 Butterfield Ranch Road, Chino Hills, and Fire Station 64, 16231 Canon Lane, Chino Hills.
The city said its Public Works department has been working behind the scenes preparing Chino Hills for the potential impacts of El Niño, and pointed residents to its StormReady page for more storm preparedness tips and resources.
