CMS Releases 2027 Marketplace Plans and Prices: Over 75% of HealthCare.gov Shoppers Can Find Plans at $50 a Month or Less

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on October 30 released its Plan Year 2027 Marketplace plans and prices fact sheet. The Open Enrollment Period to choose HealthCare.gov coverage for 2027 begins on November 1, 2026, and runs through January 15, 2027.

According to CMS, more than 75% of Americans who purchase coverage through HealthCare.gov will continue to have access to premiums at or below $50 in 2027. The millions of Americans eligible for tax credits will have access to a plan with nearly 90% of the lowest-cost premium paid for by the federal government, compared to 85% in 2020, the last year not impacted by temporary COVID-19 policies.

Building off the health savings account (HSA) eligibility expansion in the Working Families Tax Cuts, CMS said every American purchasing healthcare through HealthCare.gov has access to HSA-eligible plans, and that in 2027 eligible enrollees will have access to 35 different HSA-eligible plans on average, a more than 1,000% increase over the status quo before the expansion.

On choice, families using HealthCare.gov will have access to an average of 100 different plans and five to six different insurance companies in 2027. Catastrophic plans offer co-pay-free preventive care and protections for people with pre-existing conditions at lower costs, and the average premium of the lowest-cost catastrophic plan is nearly 10% cheaper than the next lowest-cost plan at other coverage levels, CMS said.
