North Carolina Releases Approved 2027 ACA Rates: Individual Premiums to Rise 8.35% to 27.36%

The North Carolina Department of Insurance announced in Raleigh on October 30 that approved rates for 2027 Affordable Care Act (ACA) policies have been released. For North Carolinians with individual ACA coverage, premium increases will range from 8.35% to 27.36%. Increases for small group policies will range from 18.78% to 19.54%.

Open enrollment for 2027 ACA policies runs from November 1, 2026, to January 15, 2027. Signing up by December 15, 2026, ensures coverage begins on January 1, 2027; coverage for those signing up after December 15 begins on February 1, 2027.

"While ACA increases are way less than last year's, the increased cost of claims, health care, and prescription drugs continues pushing monthly premiums higher," Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey said. He urged people buying ACA coverage to research options and choose plans that work best for them and their families, and said consumers needing help can reach a department consumer specialist at 855-408-1212 on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
