Palos Verdes Estates Voters to Decide Measure PVE, an $8.7 Million-a-Year Police Funding Measure, as Vote Center Opens October 31

The City of Palos Verdes Estates, in Los Angeles County, California, issued its October 30 city update reminding residents that Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, and explaining Measure PVE on this year's ballot. The city's Vote Center, at the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District, 300 Paseo Del Mar, is open October 31 to November 2 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.; all Los Angeles County Vote Centers open October 31, and residents may vote at any Vote Center in the county.
Measure PVE is the Palos Verdes Estates Law Enforcement Services and Pension Liability Payment Measure. The city's existing Measure E currently provides approximately $5.1 million annually for Police Department funding and expires June 30, 2027, regardless of the election outcome. Measure PVE would extend that funding for six years at a new rate beginning July 1, 2027.
If approved, Measure PVE is projected to generate approximately $8.7 million annually, with $7.7 million restricted to Police Department services and $1 million annually dedicated to reducing the city's unfunded pension liability. The measure also includes annual reporting, independent audits, Finance Advisory Committee oversight, and a six-year sunset. The city encourages residents to review its Measure PVE information page before voting, which includes the fact sheet, FAQs, the official ballot question, the proposed rate and permitted uses, accountability provisions, budget information, and the impartial analysis.
The city also announced that Police Chief Luke Hellinga and City Manager Kerry Kallman would hold an informal Community Conversation on October 30 at 5:00 p.m. in the driveway of 3817 Palos Verdes Drive North, where residents can bring questions and meet their neighbors.
