Overnight Lane Reductions on the Bay Bridge: Eastbound I-80 Narrows in Phases for Five-Year Painting Project

Caltrans announced on October 30 that the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, which links San Francisco with Oakland in Alameda County, California, would see overnight lane reductions from 11 p.m. on Friday, October 30 to 7 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, and urged drivers to slow down and allow extra travel time.
The reductions affect eastbound Interstate 80, beginning about 500 feet east of the Sterling Street on-ramp and narrowing in phases over roughly 2.2 miles. The work is part of the five-year Bridge Painting Project, which repaints the bridge's steel structure with corrosion protection against the Bay Area's salt air and moisture.
Caltrans said lanes would be narrowed in phases rather than fully closed, and that the schedule could shift with construction progress. Drivers can check sfhighwayprojects.com for project updates or call 511 and visit 511.org for real-time traffic conditions.
