Emergency Services Launches Storm Preparedness Webpage Ahead of El Niño Season

The San Bernardino County Office of Emergency Services (OES), in California, launched a new El Niño and Storm Preparedness webpage on October 29, ahead of potential El Niño conditions and the winter storm season. The page, at Prepare.SBCounty.gov/ElNino, will be updated as new information and resources become available.
The page brings together resources on flooding and debris flows, sandbag availability, emergency alerts and evacuation planning, plus safety tips for before, during and after storms. Residents can also find how to sign up for the county's Telephone Emergency Notification System (TENS), download the Ready SB County app, and prepare their households, including pets and large animals, for emergencies.
County emergency officials note that San Bernardino County's mountain and alluvial-fan communities are prone to flooding and debris flows during heavy rain, with low-lying areas and zones below burn scars at higher risk. They urge residents to review the page, sign up for alerts and agree on an evacuation and contact plan with their families now, rather than scrambling for sandbags and routes as a storm approaches.
