Operation Boo Returns on Halloween Night: Parole Agents Check Compliance Across California

Saturday, October 31, 2026 · California · GSM News

The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) announced on October 29 that its Division of Adult Parole Operations (DAPO) will carry out its annual Halloween compliance operation, Operation Boo, across California on the night of October 31, with parole agents partnering with local law enforcement to visit supervised sex offenders who are barred from contact with minors.

Under special parole conditions for the night, supervised persons must stay indoors from 5 p.m. on October 31 to 5 a.m. on November 1, keep all exterior lights off, offer no Halloween candy and display no decorations, and open their doors only for law enforcement, adult family members or emergencies. The operation has run every year since 1994, for nearly three and a half decades.

DAPO Director Bryan Bishop called it one of the division's largest outward-facing operations, with all of its resources and local law enforcement focused on a single evening so that every child can trick-or-treat safely. Agent Lorrie Schindler has taken part since 2008, and Agent Jesus Caropreso, heading into his second Operation Boo, said success means everyone in compliance, no one hurt, and every officer home safe.
