Overnight Mosquito Spraying in West Riverside as District Responds to West Nile Virus

Saturday, October 31, 2026 · California · GSM News

Residents of the City of Riverside, in Riverside County, California, should take note: the Northwest Mosquito and Vector Control District has scheduled an ultra-low-volume mosquito treatment between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. for a neighborhood west of downtown, in an operation rescheduled in response to West Nile virus detected in the area.

The treatment area is bounded by Carlo Drive to the west, Brockton Avenue to the east, Cover Street to the north and Luther Street to the south. The district said ultra-low-volume spraying releases a very small amount of insecticide as a fine mist that targets flying adult mosquitoes, and the overnight timing is chosen when few people and pets are outdoors; residents should simply stay inside with doors and windows closed during the spraying and for a short time afterward. Riverside County has reported four human West Nile virus infections in 2026.

The district reminded residents that local mosquito season runs from May through October, and urged them to drain standing water around their homes, keep window and door screens in good repair, and use repellent outdoors. Weather-related changes to the spraying schedule will be posted at northwestmvcd.org, and the district can be reached at 951-340-9792.
