Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 30 released the 24th instalment of the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi scheme at Bhildi in Gujarat's Banaskantha district, transferring more than Rs 18,680 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 9.34 crore farmer families across India, according to multiple Indian media reports and state government accounts.

In Gujarat, more than 52.33 lakh farmer families will receive assistance exceeding Rs 1,051 crore; in Haryana, more than 16 lakh farmer families received a total of Rs 324.7 crore, taking the state's cumulative receipts over 24 instalments to Rs 8,206.3 crore; and in Odisha, more than 35.38 lakh farmers received assistance.

The PM-KISAN scheme provides income support of Rs 6,000 a year to eligible farmer families, in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 each through direct benefit transfer. The release formed part of a national PM Kisan Utsav Diwas programme and was linked to agriculture and animal husbandry projects in Banaskantha, including the Rs 328.77-crore Bharat Bovine Breeding and Research Centre.

Modi then travelled to Ekta Nagar, home of the Statue of Unity, for National Unity Day celebrations on October 31 marking the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first deputy prime minister and home minister.
