Travel: Zion-Mount Carmel Highway Reopens to Visitors in Utah's Zion National Park After Rockfall Repairs

The National Park Service announced on October 9 that the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway in Zion National Park, in Washington County, Utah, had reopened to visitor traffic. A 7.5-mile section from the East Entrance to Great Arch Overlook had already reopened on October 6 for sightseeing and day use.
On September 30, a large rockfall came down on the highway, damaging the road surface and blocking traffic. The section was closed so specialists could assess the rockfall area and begin repairs.
Crews have made major progress clearing the rockfall and removing damaged asphalt. Because of the scale of the rockfall and the repairs, the surface is temporarily gravel and will be repaved soon; drivers should slow down and watch for vehicles and pedestrians. The park's South Entrance, shuttle system and Zion Canyon Scenic Drive are operating as usual.
