The University of Arkansas – Pulaski Technical College (UA-PTC) in North Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas, announced on October 22 that it has been awarded a five-year, $2,997,621 Strengthening Institutions Program (SIP) grant from the U.S. Department of Education to expand regional healthcare training capacity, create state-of-the-art simulation facilities and enhance student retention services.

The competitive federal grant supports higher education institutions in strengthening academic quality, institutional management and fiscal stability. UA-PTC's application earned a near-perfect score of 99.00 out of 100, well above the federal funding cutoff score of 92.00.

"This significant investment directly strengthens UA-PTC's ability to meet critical healthcare workforce needs across Central Arkansas," said Chancellor Summer DeProw, adding that expanded programs, modernized learning environments and wrap-around student support will prepare high-caliber healthcare professionals for high-demand careers.

Over the five-year grant period, UA-PTC will execute four integrated initiatives: developing and launching a new Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) degree program; building an Interprofessional Simulation Theater through a $539,588 facility renovation and $666,298 in advanced simulation equipment during the first two years; implementing a comprehensive student success model with dedicated student success coaches with social work and counseling backgrounds and academic advisors; and strengthening faculty capacity while aligning curriculum with employer needs.

Partners include the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), Baptist Health and regional clinical placement facilities, which will assist with curriculum design, clinical education, advisory board participation and graduate career placement.

The initial Year 1 award of $424,304 funds immediate renovation and key personnel onboarding. Continuation of funding across the five-year term remains contingent upon annual progress toward institutional goals.
