Mexico's President Announces New National University Campus in Guanajuato: 6.338 Billion Pesos in Scholarships Reach 956,289 Students

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on October 31 at the CBTIS No. 198 high school in Celaya, Guanajuato, in central Mexico, that a new campus of the Universidad Rosario Castellanos will be built in the state, with construction starting in 2027. The university is part of the federal government's national system for expanding public higher education.
Sheinbaum released the figures for the federal Becas Bienestar scholarship programme in Guanajuato: a total investment of 6.338 billion pesos (about US$340 million) reaching 956,289 students — 502,161 in primary school, 264,626 in junior high and 189,502 in high school.
Arrangements directly affecting CBTIS 198 include the federal government covering the school's tuition from November 1 and building an outdoor sports field; a new building for CBTIS 308 will be ready in March 2027.
Education Secretary Mario Delgado and Guanajuato Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo attended the event.
The same day, Sheinbaum also inspected construction of the Querétaro–Irapuato passenger railway: the 108.2-kilometre line is 24.71 percent complete, will benefit about two million people when finished, and has created 3,365 direct and 5,773 indirect jobs.
