Chicago, Cook County, Illinois: Chinese-Canadian pianist Bruce Liu will give a recital at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, in Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center, part of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's 2026-27 piano series.

Liu rose to fame after winning the gold medal at the 2021 International Chopin Piano Competition. The CSO describes his playing as balancing breathtaking power and poetic refinement, and calls this appearance his highly anticipated return to Chicago.

The program traces a night journey: Ligeti's 'Fanfares' from Etudes, Book I; Beethoven's 'Moonlight' Sonata; two of Chopin's Nocturnes, Op. 27; Ravel's 'Alborada del gracioso' from Miroirs; Debussy's 'Reverie'; Beethoven's 'Waldstein' Sonata; Mompou's gloss on 'Au clair de la lune'; Albeniz's 'El puerto' from Iberia; and Liszt's Spanish Rhapsody.

Symphony Center is at 220 South Michigan Avenue. Liu's concept album 'Lunaris,' released on Deutsche Grammophon in August, journeys through the night and includes some of the works on this program.
