Hawaii Pacific Women's Basketball Beats Western Colorado 74-63 in Season Opener in Honolulu
Honolulu, Hawaii — The Hawaii Pacific University women's basketball team opened its season with a 74-63 win over Western Colorado University on October 30. Western Colorado's Alyssa Eckroth scored a career-high 24 points and Colette Van der Hoven added 15, but Western's fourth-quarter shooting cooled as Hawaii Pacific pulled away at the free-throw line.
Western Colorado outrebounded Hawaii Pacific 40-31, trailed 53-49 entering the fourth quarter and got within one point before Hawaii Pacific rebuilt its lead. The game was played in Honolulu as part of the Hawaii Basketball Tipoff Classic.
The loss left Western Colorado at 0-1 and Hawaii Pacific at 1-0. Western Colorado's next game was set for October 31 at 5:30 p.m. Mountain Time against the loser of the Winona State–Lubbock Christian game, for placement in the tournament.
