Chargers Place Safety Derwin James on Injured Reserve After Hamstring Setback

Inglewood, Los Angeles County, California — The Los Angeles Chargers announced on October 31 that All-Pro safety Derwin James has been placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. James has been sidelined since Week 3, and head coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters days earlier that James had suffered a setback in his return; the move pushes his earliest return to Week 12 against the New England Patriots, and he will miss at least four games. James has 21 total tackles, 12 of them solo, and one pass defended in three games this season.
The team also confirmed that guard Kayode Awosika (fibula), defensive back Deane Leonard (concussion) and receiver Brenen Thompson (quad/hamstring) will miss Sunday's November 1 game against the Los Angeles Rams, while cornerbacks Donte Jackson and Rodney Shelley are questionable. Receiver Ladd McConkey sat out Monday's practice with a concussion but practiced fully the rest of the week and is expected to play.
The Chargers have dealt with injuries to several key players this season: tight end David Njoku injured his right knee and fibula in Week 2, and left tackle Rashawn Slater underwent surgery after a high ankle sprain in Week 4.
