Padres Bullpen Coach Ben Fritz Joins Diamondbacks as Pitching Coach
San Diego, San Diego County, California — Longtime San Diego Padres bullpen coach Ben Fritz has agreed to become the pitching coach of the Arizona Diamondbacks, bringing an important change to the Padres' coaching staff next season. Fritz joined the Padres organization in 2015, worked his way through the minor league system and has served as bullpen coach since 2019, a core member of the team's pitching staff.
With Fritz departing and a group of players entering free agency or already gone, the Padres will look much different in the 2027 season. News also emerged this week that ace pitcher Michael King was opting out of his contract.
The Padres are still evaluating other coaching positions and have not announced who will succeed Fritz as bullpen coach. Arizona hopes Fritz's experience will improve its pitching staff heading into next season.
